Is your messaging costing you business?
Time for a quick sense-check
Your business has changed. But has your messaging kept up?
As businesses grow, new people join, services evolve and different teams develop their own ways of talking about what you do. Your website gets tweaked. Marketing gets busier. Along the way, your messaging can get a bit… messy.
The trouble is, when you’re on the inside, it’s not always easy to spot.
How does your messaging stack up?
-
If you can’t clearly articulate why someone should choose you over a competitor, don’t expect your prospective clients to work it out for themselves.
-
A bit of personality is a good thing. Sales, marketing and leadership telling three completely different stories? Not so much.
You don’t need a script. You do need a shared story that everyone understands.
-
There are plenty of reasons why a prospect might choose someone else. But if they can’t see why you’re the better choice for them, your messaging could be part of the problem.
-
People pay attention to things that matter to them.
If your messaging doesn't connect what you do with the problems, priorities and ambitions of your ideal clients, you've given them very little reason to engage.
-
Getting your name out there is one thing. Getting people to remember it is another.
Clear, consistent and distinctive messaging gives all that marketing activity a much better chance of sticking.
-
Your website should quickly tell prospective clients: this is for me, these people understand my problem, here's why I should choose them, and here's what I need to do next.
If it doesn't, you could be losing opportunities without ever knowing they were there.
So, how did you get on?
No complicated scoring system here.
But if two or more of those questions made you hesitate, there's a good chance your messaging could be working harder for your business.
Unclear messaging can make you harder to remember, harder to differentiate and harder to buy from. It creates extra work for your sales and marketing teams and makes it much more difficult to communicate consistently as you grow.
